LANSING, Mich.—State Sen. Mike Green speaks before the Senate Health Policy Committee in support of Senate Bill 414, which would extend health insurance coverage in Michigan to autism spectrum disorders.
“Nearly 15,000 Michigan children have been diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder,” said Green, R-Mayville. “Autism disorders are more commonly diagnosed in children than cancer, diabetes and AIDS combined. And while treatment of diseases such as cancer is included under law, autism is not. With passage of this legislation, Michigan will join 29 other states in enacting autism coverage. It is time that Michigan children have access to these life-changing services. This is the right thing to do.”
