The legislation would reform the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act (NREPA) to allow residents with septic tanks to seek more competitive pricing for waste disposal by repealing the service areas requirement in the law and by prohibiting publicly-owned facilities from monopolizing such services within their jurisdiction.

Sen. Mike Green's office is the new home to an impressive art collection from the students of St. John the Evangelist Catholic School and Juniata Christian School. The art consists of works from students in kindergarten through 5th grades at St. John's and students in the 3rd and 4th grades at Juniata. The collection will be displayed in the senator's office during the month of February.

The leaders also met with area business heads at a Chemical Bank annual breakfast, and received an educational tour of the Karn/Weadock Generating Complex in Essexville from Consumers Energy officials. The complex employs 370 people and can generate up to 2,101 megawatts, enough power to serve a community of more than 1.3 million.

The bill would amend the General Sales Tax Act to expand the types of businesses eligible to file returns for credit sales quarterly, rather than monthly, due to seasonal fluctuations in cash flow.
